Sockets are the permanent half of the eme davit system — precision-machined bases in signature safety yellow, installed once at every lift point on your site. A single portable davit drops into each one with zero tools, engages on the proprietary Smooth Glide System, and rotates under load. Six standard variants plus a drop-in extender cover most install geometries; custom sockets are engineered to site for anything else.

Six Mount Patterns. One Engagement System.

Choose the socket by installation geometry. Use the same davit across the network.

Pick the socket by where you need the davit to sit and what it has to mount to. The Smooth Glide engagement is identical across every variant — your davit lifts the same way on a flush socket as it does on a 42-inch side-mount. Need more reach on a 1,100 lb lift? The Socket Extender drops into a Flush Mount, 8" Top Mount, or compact Side Mount and raises the pivot point.

eme flush mount socket — recessed yellow steel cylinder with surface-level top plate
Ground-Level Install

Flush Mount Socket

Sits flush with the finished surface — concrete pad, deck plate, or vehicle floor. Ideal for high-traffic areas where a raised socket would be a trip hazard, vehicle pinch point, or visual obstruction.

Fits
1100 / 2200 davit series
Finish
Safety yellow powder coat
Typical install
Concrete pad, vehicle floor, pump-pit rim
eme 8-inch top mount socket — yellow trapezoidal pedestal with steel top plate and socket bore
Surface-Mount

Top Mount Socket · 8"

A trapezoidal pedestal that rises 8 inches above the finished surface. Bolts to a horizontal surface where flush mounting isn't practical or where the socket needs visible identification as a rated lift point. The most common surface-mount install in the catalog.

Fits
1100 / 2200 davit series
Finish
Safety yellow powder coat
Typical install
Roof edge, mechanical-room floor, equipment-pad surround
eme compact side mount socket — yellow L-bracket cantilever with triangular gusset
Wall-Mount · Short Reach

Side Mount Socket · Compact

Bolts horizontally to a wall, column, or structural beam — short cantilevered arm with a triangular gusset for stiffness. The standard side-mount for tight wall-clearance installs where a long reach isn't needed.

Fits
1100 / 2200 davit series
Finish
Safety yellow powder coat
Typical install
Vehicle bay wall, equipment column face, structural beam
eme 42-inch extended side mount socket — tall yellow vertical post mounted to a wall surface
Wall-Mount · Extended

Side Mount Socket · 42"

The 42-inch extended side-mount — a tall vertical post bolted to a wall surface, with the socket at the top of the post. Reaches over obstacles, around guards, or up to a higher working plane than the wall mount face alone can provide.

Fits
1100 / 2200 davit series
Finish
Safety yellow powder coat
Typical install
Tank wall, mechanical-room column, over-and-up installs
eme 42-inch top end mount socket — standalone yellow column with Made in Canada label
Tall Standalone

Top End Mount Socket · 42"

A 42-inch standalone vertical column topped with the socket. Lifts the davit pivot point above adjacent equipment, railing, or curb obstructions — common where a flush or 8" top-mount would put the davit boom too low.

Fits
1100 / 2200 davit series
Finish
Safety yellow powder coat
Typical install
Beside parapet wall, behind machinery guard, over-and-into roof hatch
eme socket extender — slim yellow vertical column that drops into a Flush Mount, 8-inch Top Mount, or compact Side Mount socket to extend reach upward
Temporary Reach · 1,100 lb Only

Socket Extender

Drops into a Flush Mount, 8" Top Mount, or compact Side Mount socket and raises the davit pivot point above the host installation. Use to clear a parapet wall, reach over an equipment guard, or temporarily increase the working height without re-engineering the permanent socket. Rated for the 1100 Series davit only — not for use with the 2200 Series or the 42" socket variants.

Compatible with Flush Mount, 8" Top Mount, and compact Side Mount sockets. Rated to 1,100 lb capacity — not for 2200 Series davits or the 42" socket variants.
Fits
1100 Series only
Finish
Safety yellow powder coat
Typical install
Parapet clearance, equipment-guard reach, temporary 1,100 lb height extension
CUSTOM
Built to Site Geometry

Custom Engineered Socket

When the install location doesn't match a stock socket — odd-angle mounting face, non-standard offset, dock-edge mount, tank manway, integrated vehicle frame — eme engineers a custom socket to the site geometry. Engineer-stamped drawing supplied with every custom unit.

Fits
1100 / 2200 davit series
Finish
Safety yellow standard · 316 stainless on request
Typical install
Dock-edge mount, tank manway, vehicle frame integration, marine bulkhead

Rotation Under Load. Every Socket.

Every eme socket and davit pair uses the same proprietary low-friction interface — the Smooth Glide System. The davit pivots inside the socket on a precision-machined engagement surface that stays smooth under rated load and tolerates field debris (dust, light grit, water) without binding. No grease nipple, no service interval, no learning curve from one socket to the next.

01 · Engineering

Precision-machined engagement.

Socket bore and davit stem are machined to a controlled tolerance — not just a slip-fit. The contact face carries the rotational load instead of relying on a bushing or bearing that wears.

02 · Field

Rotation while loaded.

The davit operator rotates the load from pickup to drop-off without setting the lift down. No swing crane, no re-rigging between angles — the Smooth Glide System is what makes this possible.

03 · Maintenance

No grease required. Simple inspection.

The engagement is intentionally not a lubricated bearing — there is no grease fitting and no bearing service interval. Routine inspection focuses on the socket structure, welds, protective cap, and engagement surfaces.

The Yellow Is the Point.

Every standard eme socket ships in the same bright safety-yellow powder coat — not as decoration, but as jobsite wayfinding. On a busy site, the yellow socket reads at a glance as a rated lift point. Crews don't have to remember where the davits drop in or which floor pad is structural; the yellow tells them.

High Visibility

Readable from across a plant floor, a rooftop, or a vehicle bay — no signage required to identify the lift point.

Safety Convention

Yellow is industrial-safety convention for "caution / take note" — the same color used on hazard-marked equipment and PPE warning labels.

Powder-Coat Durability

Powder coat — not paint — for jobsite resilience. Resists chipping under foot traffic, vehicle bumps, and chain-hoist contact.

Where the environment demands a different material spec — marine, wash-down, chemical exposure — we build the same socket geometry in 316 stainless steel. See the next section.

Built for the Toughest Environments.

Some sites eat painted finishes alive — coastal air, salt spray, daily chemical wash-down, food-grade sanitation cycles, wastewater chemistry. For those, eme builds the same socket geometry in 316 stainless steel. Naturally corrosion-resistant, supplied unpainted, identical Smooth Glide engagement, available across every mount pattern in the catalog.

Marine & Coastal

Salt spray, humid air, and coastal install conditions where powder coat eventually pits and lifts. Stainless holds the structural surface integrity that painted steel can't on a long-term outdoor install.

Wash-Down · Food & Pharma

Food processing, dairy, beverage, and pharma facilities with daily high-pressure sanitation cycles. Stainless tolerates the cleaning agents and frequency that strip painted finishes within a year.

Chemical & Wastewater

Treatment plants, chemical manufacturing, and industrial process facilities with persistent chemical exposure. Stainless can reduce the periodic strip-and-recoat maintenance cycle required by painted sockets in aggressive environments.

Material
316 Stainless Steel

Marine-grade austenitic stainless — same family used on offshore equipment and food-contact fabrication.

Finish
Unpainted Standard · Yellow Optional

Ships natural mill finish. Optional safety-yellow powder coat available if visibility is required for the lift point.

Geometry
Identical to Standard Sockets

Same Smooth Glide engagement, same compatible davits, available in all five mount patterns including custom.

When the Site Won't Fit a Stock Socket.

A standard flush, top-mount, or side-mount won't always fit. Dock-edge mounts, tank manways, marine bulkheads, integrated vehicle frames, and angled mounting faces all need a socket designed to the geometry — not a stock part modified in the field. eme engineering builds the socket, supplies an engineer-stamped drawing, and load-tests the finished assembly before shipment.

Welded, Finished, and Verified.

Standard eme sockets are mild-steel construction welded under CSA W47.1 certification (the steel equivalent of the W47.2 aluminum certification used on eme's gantry and davit lines) by qualified welders — a Canadian Welding Bureau third-party credential for fusion welding. Davit + socket assemblies carry the same design factor on yield stress as the davit itself — well in excess of the proof-test load — with structures meeting CSA S157 (Canadian aluminum structural design), the same engineering framework the eme davit cranes are built to.

Custom-engineered sockets ship with an engineer-stamped drawing and a Certificate of Test at 125% of the rated davit capacity, so the pre-service proof test is already done and documented on arrival. Browse the full reference set for the technical details behind each spec.
